Noted for its realism when it was first released in 1985, Revs is a Formula Three racing simulation by Geoff Crammond, who went on to create Formula One Grand Prix for the 16-bits.
Unlike most other racing games of the period, Revs offers a full 3D environment and allows the player to adjust the car’s aerodynamics. The player can also drive the wrong way around the track or even leave the track altogether.
Technical consultancy on Revs was provided by Formula Three driver David Hunt, who had been sponsored by Acorn during the British Formula Three Championship.
More details at Stardot.
A later release of the game, by Superior/Acornsoft, featured computer-assisted steering. The feature does not appear to have been widely advertised, but it was mentioned in the manual and/or on an addendum leaflet provided with the software.
See a YouTube video of Revs being played with a modern steering wheel controller.
